Job summary

Gleason Metrology Systems in Dayton, Ohio is seeking a Grinding Specialist responsible for manual grinder operation, setup and maintenance. You will execute precise flat and rotary grinding, follow detailed prints, perform routine maintenance, and contribute to quality documentation.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years grinding experience, a high school diploma (trade school/technical degree preferred), strong problem-solving and communication skills, and a customer-focused mindset.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with preference for trade school/associates in technical discipline.
• 2-5 years operation of manual grinding equipment.
• Equivariant experience in operation of general machining equipment.
• Experience in holding precision tolerances on manual flat or rotary grinding equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Execute precision flat or rotary grinding of steel weldments and cast components to tight tolerances.
• Perform maintenance on manual grinders including wheel changes and chuck resurfacing.
• Read and interpret detailed design prints to set up grinders for flat/radii surfaces.
• Interpret and execute grinding operations on manual grinders per drawings indicating tolerances.
• Perform basic milling or cutting tasks as required.
• Update ITL logs to support product non-conformance.
• Maintain documentation for ISO 14001 and safety programs.

The Grinding Specialist is responsible manual grinder operation, setup, and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Execution of precision flat or rotary grinding of steel weldment and cast components to precision tolerances.
• Perform maintenance as required for manual flat and rotary grinders including but not limited to wheel changes and magnetic chuck resurfacing.
• Interpret and execute grinding operations on a manual flat grinder from detailed design prints/drawings indicating flat, parallel, and perpendicular surfaces.
• Interpret and execute grinding operations on a manual rotary grinder from detailed design prints/drawings indicating round and concentric bores/diameters.
• Execute basic milling, cutting, or other machining tasks as required.
• Update Issue Tracking Log (ITL) in a timely manner to support GMS product non-conformance
• Ability to paint castings on an as needed basis
• Maintain documentation for ISO 14001 and Safety programs

Background and Skill

• High School Diploma with preference of having additional Trade School (Tool maker, CNC Operation, Precision Grinding Operation as example etc) and/or Associates Degree in Technical Discipline
• 2 - 5 years operation of manual grinding equipment
• Equivariant experience in operation of general machining equipment to be considered
• Experience in holding precision tolerances on manual flat or rotary grinding equipment preferred.
