Job summary

Ellwood Quality Steels is seeking a high-performing team member for the Remelt Department as a Preparation and Finish Operator. The role supports remelting operations in a fast-paced environment, following procedures to ensure safe, accurate processing of customer material.

Requirements include a minimum high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year in a steel manufacturing setting. Remote crane operation and shipping experience are preferred, with a strong focus on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent GED required.
• Minimum one (1) year experience in steel manufacturing environment preferred.
• Remote crane operation experience preferred.
• Prior shipping experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate electrode preparation equipment including annealing furnaces, grinder and band saw.
• Ships and receives electrodes, ingots, billets and supplies via rail car and truck for the remelt facility.
• Assists the Remelt Operator as needed.
• Conducts pre-operational inspections for cranes and mobile equipment as needed.
• Operates remote overhead cranes and related systems.
• Performs housekeeping in the remelting facility.
• Meets attendance requirements.
• Abides by all policies and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities Under general supervision performs daily and other related duties following established practices set forth in the Operating Procedures Manual and the Manufacturing Instructions Manual.

• Must wear the required PPE at all times.
• Must have ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
• Operates the electrode preparation equipment including annealing furnaces, grinder and band saw
• Ships and receives electrodes, ingots, billets and supplies via rail car and truck for the remelt facility, EQS Shipping and EQS/ENS A-space warehouse.
• Assists the Remelt Operator as needed
• Completes Pre-Operational Inspections for cranes and mobile equipment, as needed
• Operates remote overhead cranes
• Stocks supplies for preparation and finishing
• Conducts fire extinguisher inspections on a monthly basis.
• Operates all department equipment/machinery and related systems, as necessary.
• Performs housekeeping in the remelting facility
• Abides by all policies and procedures established by the Company including plant safety regulations and work rules.
• Must have ability and desire to work with others.
• Meets attendance requirements.
• Performs other duties as deemed necessary.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum one (1) year experience in steel manufacturing environment preferred. Remote crane operation experience preferred. Prior shipping experience is preferred.

TRAINING: Theoretical Steelmaking Course (internal class provided once hired)
