Position: Grinder Machine Operator 1st Shift

Position Summary:

The Grinder operates a machine to grind metal parts to appropriate standards.

Essential/Key Functions:

1. Grinds metal objects, such as castings, billets, machine parts, and sheet metal subassemblies to smooth or rough-finish objects to specifications.
2. Removes excess metal, scratches, or burs by feeding metal pieces against rotating grinding wheel.
3. Examines and measures workpieces for conformance to standards.
4. Selects and mounts abrasive wheels of different grit sizes to obtain specified finish on workpieces.
5. Verifies correct product using job traveler.
6. Inspects a wide variety of parts for compliance with engineering specifications and standards, using appropriate inspection methodology and recording results.
7. Interprets complex drawings, process sheets, and standards.
8. Works with quality and management on manufacturing issues/defects.
9. Monitors machine performance and performs preventative maintenance.
10. Maintains fluid levels on all equipment.
11. Uses precision measuring tools specific to the job.
12. Reads part drawings with sectional views.
13. Utilizes overhead crane to lift, position, and transport parts.
14. Maintains plant standards in safety, quality, delivery, cost, 5S, housekeeping, teamwork, and attendance.
15. Recommends improvements for processes and products.
16. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Mechanical inclination.

Physical Demands:

Requires sitting, standing, walking, handling, reaching, talking, hearing, occasional crouching, and lifting items up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities are required.
