Job summary

Metals USA is seeking a Grinder/Helper for 1st Shift at the Waggaman, LA facility. You will receive, stock, and move items, tag materials, pull and assemble customer orders, and operate yard equipment and cranes to load and unload trailers.

You may perform grinding and oxy-fuel torch tasks and ensure accurate production paperwork is completed. The role requires standing for long periods, wearing PPE, and complying with safety rules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Basic arithmetic to calculate decimals and fractions.
• Ability to comprehend oral and written communication.
• Proficient measuring skills and ability to read tapes, micrometers, calipers.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
• Industrial warehouse experience preferred.
• Experience with heavy equipment preferred.
• Overhead crane/forklift experience required.
• Detail oriented with ability to inspect material for quality.
• Valid OSHA Forklift Certification.
• Valid Overhead Crane Certification.
• Pre-employment drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Receives, places/returns items into stock inventory locations.
• Tags materials for proper identification.
• Pulls and assembles customer orders in order of delivery.
• Operates yard truck for loading/unloading trailers.
• Operates cranes to load/unload trailers.
• Operates forklift (5k or 10k) to load/unload trailers.
• Securing loaded material onto trucks and may load/unload materials.
• Completes and documents production and quality paperwork; follow shop system data collection procedures.
• Performs grinding and oxy-fuel torch tasks.
• Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner, returning tools to designated areas.
• Assures machine operation centers are loaded with material for production.
• Notifies management of discrepancies, equipment malfunctions and injuries.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• Restocks material.
