Griffin Spalding County Schools is seeking dependable and enthusiastic individuals to join their Child Nutrition Program team as Substitute Child Nutrition Program Workers. This on-call, provisional role plays a vital part in ensuring that students receive nutritious, safe, and welcoming meal experiences every school day. As a substitute worker, you will step in as needed to support school cafeteria operations across the district, helping to maintain the high standards of the National School Lunch, Breakfast, and After School programs. This is a temporary, on-call position, and hours are not guaranteed availability will be based on the district's needs and demands. Ideal candidates are flexible, punctual, and ready to report to various school sites on short notice. Whether you're supporting a busy lunch service or assisting with a special school event, your contributions directly impact the health and well-being of the students and staff you serve. Working in a school nutrition environment means being part of a team that values cleanliness, food safety, and positive student interactions. You will work alongside fellow nutrition staff under the guidance of the Child Nutrition Program Supervisor, contributing to a cafeteria environment that is organized, sanitary, and welcoming for all. This position reports directly to the Child Nutrition Program Supervisor.
A typical day as a Substitute Child Nutrition Program Worker begins with arriving at your assigned school site and quickly orienting yourself to the day's meal service needs. You'll work alongside the regular nutrition staff to prepare and portion food items in accordance with nutritional guidelines, ensuring meals are ready before the first students arrive. During service, you'll interact warmly with students and staff as you distribute meals, operate the serving line, and when assigned manage the cashier station by collecting payments and balancing the register. Between service periods, you'll focus on maintaining a clean and sanitary environment: washing equipment, mopping floors, wiping down tables, and restocking supplies. You may also inspect incoming food deliveries to verify quantities and compliance with health standards, and conduct inventory checks to ensure all necessary items are available. The pace is fast, the work is physical, and the reward is knowing that every student who walks through that cafeteria line is being cared for. Success in this role looks like a smooth, efficient service period, a spotless kitchen, and students who feel welcomed and valued.

Ability to operate various foodservice equipment safely and skillfully.

Ability to interact positively with students, staff, administration, and the general public to foster a friendly, welcoming dining environment.
