Job summary

An environmental stewardship organization in Boston is seeking youth ages 14-18 for their Green Team program. Crew members will work on restoring urban woodlands, educate residents about proper environmental practices, and learn practical skills for outdoor conservation work. This position requires candidates to be City of Boston residents aged 16-18, to work well in teams, and to be interested in nature. Qualifications

• Must be a City of Boston resident between the ages of 16-18.
• Must be currently enrolled in high school or equivalent.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds and do physical work outdoors.
• Must work well with others as a team member.
• Interest in working outdoors and learning about nature.

Schedule: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri 9:00AM-2:00PM, Thur 10:00AM – 3:00PM

Work hours are subject to change for field trips

Green Team Program Description

The Green Team is a youth jobs and environmental stewardship program, which employs youth ages 14-18 to restore Hyde Park’s urban wilds. These are conservation woodlands, which we must care for and protect so they can protect us from the effects of climate change. Urban wilds cool and clean the air, and their roots prevent flooding. The woods also provide a home for animals, bugs, birds and all the creatures that work together to keep our environment healthy.

Crew Member Work Projects

• Restoring walking trails and trail entrances so residents have a safe place to exercise, relax and explore nature.
• Educating residents about proper use of the woods
• Learning to identify and remove invasive plants that harm the environment and plant native trees and shrubs that help the environment.
• Learning to create swales to manage water run-off and prevent flooding.

Trainings and Field Trips

• Exploring options after high school (colleges, green building trades, public service jobs, etc.)
• Learning about Boston water and sewer system
• Resume writing and interviewing
• Banking Basics – checking and saving accounts, credit scores, etc.

Qualifications

• Must be a City of Boston resident between the ages of 16-18
• Must be currently enrolled in high school, post-secondary education or a GED/HiSET/Alternative Education program. (For students going to college, they must be going into their first year)
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds and do physical work outdoors for extended periods of time
• Must work well with others as a team member
• Interest in working outdoors; and learning about nature
