Job summary

Capitol Blue Print in Springfield, IL is seeking a Graphic Design Prepress Specialist to prepare customer files for digital presses, ensuring accuracy and readiness for production.

You will add bleeds and crop marks, replace low‑res images, adjust type and layout, proof electronically and on paper, and coordinate with customers to meet deadlines. Training is provided.

The role is on-site, full-time, with a Monday–Friday schedule and benefits including health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.

We are hiring a Graphic Design Prepress Specialist at Capitol Blue Print in Springfield.

If you have a design background and you have been looking for something with a steady schedule, a small team, and work you can point at when it comes off the press, read on.

Position summary

Customers submit artwork that is frequently not ready for print. The prepress specialist prepares those files for our digital presses. This is production-first: preparing customer files for our digital presses, catching problems before they cost a run, proofing, imposition, and finishing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare customer files for digital press: add bleeds and crop marks, replace low-resolution images, adjust type and layout
• Review files for errors before production begins
• Proof jobs electronically and on paper
• Communicate with customers regarding files, proofs, and deadlines by phone and email
• Arrange jobs on press sheets (imposition) so they cut, fold, and finish correctly
• Send jobs to press; load paper, replace toner, and clear jams
• Operate our Duplo cutter/slitter/creaser for finishing
• Save files to the network and update job tickets for the billing department

Qualifications

• We will teach you printing.
• Strong attention to detail. The ability to notice errors is the single most important qualification for this position.
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat), or the aptitude to learn.
• Clear, professional communication with customers by phone and email
• Dependable attendance. Our hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and our team depends on one another.
• Comfort with work that is repetitive at times and requires consistent accuracy

Prior printing experience is not required; we provide training. A background in graphic design is an advantage, as is experience in any field that required precision.

Compensation and schedule

• $17.00 - $18.00 per hour to start, with a performance review at 90 days
• Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No evenings or weekends.
