Overview

The Communications team at the University of Virginia School of Data Science is seeking a talented and motivated graphic design coordinator. This position reports to the Creative Manager and will be integral in supporting the design needs for the school. The Graphic Design Coordinator will assist with designing a suite of print, digital, and social media marketing pieces, the rollout of a digital asset management platform, Photoshelter, and branded template creation, photo management and brand consistency.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include designing print, digital, and social media marketing pieces; supporting the rollout of a digital asset management platform (Photoshelter); creating branded templates; managing photos and ensuring brand consistency across materials.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: 2+ years relevant experience required.

Licensure: None.

Required Skills
  • Technical skills: experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva
  • Design skills: a solid understanding of core design principles like color theory, typography, layout, composition, hierarchy, alignment, balance, and visual communication
  • Problem-solving skills: the capability to understand the request, identify challenges, and creatively develop effective solutions that meet project goals and client requirements
  • Detail-oriented: meticulousness and accuracy in executing design elements, ensuring precision in typography, alignment, color consistency, and overall design quality
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

Compensation

This position will pay $25/hour.

Employment Period

July 2026 - December 31, 2026 with option for extension
