Job summary

The Boys Club of New York BCNY is seeking a Graphic Arts Teaching Artist to inspire boys ages 6–12 with studio art activities such as sculpture, painting, graphic design, and iMovie. Classes will be conducted for groups of four to twenty boys at our Upper East Side facility.

The role requires reliable, motivated candidates with experience in youth development and a passion for arts education. This is a part-time, non-exempt position located at 321 East 111th St, New York, NY 10029.

Qualifications

  • Experience in youth development, education, or afterschool programs.
  • AA or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or two years related experience or training; or equivalent.
  • Junior level or higher preferred; experience with multiple computer programs and software including Adobe Suite.
  • First Aid and CPR certification desirable; advanced knowledge of computer graphics, Web design, animation.
  • Online search skills; ability to adapt to changing environment and needs of boys in the program.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and practice.
  • Teach lessons using fine art techniques and materials.
  • Assist with daily setup, cleanup and transportation.
  • Model and enforce health and safety practices for members.
  • Engage with members and preemptively defuse inappropriate behavior; encourage positive interactions.
  • Prepare and administer assessments and track progress.
  • Review instructional content and student performance to develop curriculum improvements.
  • Complete timely program reports including supply requests, lesson plans, and timesheets.
  • Ensure proper care of materials, organize room, report damaged items to prevent injuries.

Job Summary

Responsibilities


  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction demonstration and practice that provides students with opportunities to observe investigate and practice skills

  • Teach lessons using various fine art techniques and materials

  • Assist with daily set up daily clean up and transportation

  • Model and enforce adherence to sound health and safety practices for each member

  • Engage with members and use appropriate strategies to preemptively defuse inappropriate behavior and encourage positive interactions

  • Prepare and administer written oral and performance assessments and determine progress

  • Review instructional content methods and student performance in order to assess strengths and weaknesses and develop recommendations for curriculum revision development or elimination

  • Responsible for completing and the timely submission of all program reports relative to this position including but not limited to supply requests lesson plans and timesheets

  • Ensure proper care of all area materials organize room and report any misused or damaged materials to the department director in order to prevent injuries or damage


Qualifications


  • Previous experience in youth development education or afterschool

  • Associates degree A A or equivalent from a two year college or technical school; or two years related experience andor training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Junior level or higher preferred; Experience with multiple computer programs and software eg Photoshop Acrobat InDesign Premiere Pro After Effects; First Aid and CPR Certification desirable; Advanced knowledge of Computer graphics Web design Animation Online search skills; Ability to adapt to a changing environment and to address the varying needs of the boys in our program
