Job summary

HRL Laboratories seeks an experienced AI researcher to lead efforts in agentic AI, autonomous workflows, and LLM-powered agent architectures. You will design multi-agent systems for distributed decision-making, integrating memory, planning, tool use, and retrieval across mission-critical domains.

The role emphasizes graph machine learning, knowledge graphs, and multimodal reasoning. Candidates will publish findings, collaborate with diverse teams, and contribute to proposal development at HRL’s

Qualifications

• MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Applied Mathematics, or related field plus 3+ years in AI/ML.
• Strong background in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and multimodal models.
• Experience with prompting, fine tuning, and optimization of foundation models.
• Experience developing LLM-powered agentic AI systems and agent frameworks.
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol, A2A, or comparable frameworks.
• Hands-on graph mining and geometric deep learning experience.
• Experience with knowledge graphs, graph schemas, and graph databases.
• Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and modern software practices.
• Experience with large-scale data processing and distributed systems.
• Experience deploying AI systems with LLMOps/AgentOps and GPU acceleration.

Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct research in agentic AI, autonomous workflows, and LLM-powered architectures.
• Design, develop, and evaluate multi-agent systems for distributed decision-making and long-horizon tasks.
• Build knowledge-enhanced AI using graphs, ontologies, and multimodal retrieval.
• Apply graph ML to support pattern discovery, anomaly detection, and predictive analytics.
• Develop trustworthy AI with Explainable AI, V&V, and safety assessments.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and publish research.
