The successful applicant will support the Infrastructure Pilot Excavator (IPEx) project to mine and transport lunar regolith crucial for future lunar missions in In-Situ Resource Utilization processes. Thesuccessful applicant shallhelp design and test mechanical, software, and control systems, develop test plans,provideengineering solutions for tests insimulated lunar environments, process data, report findings to project Principal Investigators, andsupportpublication to peer reviewed journals.Applicants areexpected to have significant experience in lunarsurface system research including a strong understanding of granular mechanics fundaments and how IPExis an indispensable tool to NASA missions and objectives.
