Job Summary

The City of Decatur is looking for a detail-oriented financial professional to take ownership of grant reporting, financial compliance, budget support, and audit coordination. Your work will help ensure grant-funded programs are properly managed, documented, and reported—and that public funding is protected and used in accordance with grant requirements.

This cross-functional role connects financial management with grant administration. You will:

  • Keep grant-funded programs on track through accurate financial and performance reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local grant requirements and reporting deadlines.
  • Track grant activity, maintain financial records, and support budget development and justifications.
  • Coordinate documentation for internal and external audits and respond to compliance requirements.
  • Work with the Grants Manager, Finance Department, and departmental staff to support grant applications, projects, timelines, and deliverables.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit required financial, performance, and grant documentation.
  • Maintain accurate grant records and monitor reporting deadlines.
  • Use internal and external financial reporting systems to track grant activities.
  • Apply grant regulations and compliance requirements to grant-funded programs.
  • Maintain detailed financial records and grant budget spreadsheets.
  • Assist with budget development and justifications.
  • Manage loan, tax, and insurance payments, lien releases, and related documentation.
  • Prepare financial reports and documentation for the Finance Department.
Audit & Program Support
  • Maintain files in accordance with record retention requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits, including documentation and response coordination.
  • Assist with grant application documentation and submission processes.
  • Help develop project timelines and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Provide cross‑functional support within the Grants Division as needed.
Requirements
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, public administration, social services, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in grants administration, accounting, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of grant accounting, auditing principles, government budgeting, financial systems, and procurement processes.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local grant regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Strong analytical and financial reporting skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and financial data.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, communication, collaboration, and time‑management skills.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Commitment to providing high‑quality service to internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with grant systems such as IDIS, ACRES, SAM.gov, or Grants.gov.
