Grantee Relations Manager

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid)

Reports To: Executive Director

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Compensation: $75,000 – $80,000 per year (DOE)

Position Summary

The Colorado Media Project is seeking a strategic and process-driven Grantee Relations Manager to serve as the primary bridge between CMP and our grantee partners. You will manage the full lifecycle of our grantmaking portfolio, from application design to impact reporting, ensuring that our process is equitable, transparent, and supportive of Colorado’s local newsrooms.

Key Responsibilities
Grant Lifecycle Management
  • Open Call Execution: Own the end-to-end process for open calls and invited grants, including application design, review facilitation, panel logistics, and award notifications.
  • Process Discipline: Maintain clear timelines and rubrics to ensure funding decisions are equitable. You translate complex grant cycles into simple, repeatable procedures.
  • Documentation: Ensure all grant agreements are issued, signed, and filed correctly before payment is authorized.
Grantee Support & Ecosystem Building
  • Relationship Management: Serve as the primary partner for grantees, connecting them to technical assistance and resources.
  • Working Group Support: Participate in Working Groups, and other coalitions on behalf of CMP, including communities of practice, to foster collaboration among newsrooms.
  • Capacity Building: Collaborate with grantees to identify challenges in sustainability and audience engagement, connecting them with resources.
Impact, Board, & Funder Reporting
  • Funder Reporting: Lead the drafting and preparation of formal grant reports for CMP’s funders. You will synthesize grantee data and impact stories to demonstrate the effectiveness of CMP’s strategy and ensure all grant agreement reporting requirements are met.
  • Board Reporting: Prepare comprehensive programmatic reports for the Board of Directors. You will analyze portfolio performance, highlight key successes and challenges, and provide the Board with the insights needed for strategic oversight.
  • Funder Table Presentations: Collaborate with the Executive Director to design the "Impact Update" portion of quarterly Funder Table meetings. You prepare the data, slide decks, and grantee stories that demonstrate the value of the coalition's collective investments.
  • Fundraising Event Content: Support the programmatic side of fundraising events by sourcing the stories, images, and metrics that illustrate CMP’s impact for donor-facing materials.
Grants Administration & Compliance
  • Operational Collaboration: Partner with the Associate Director of Operations to ensure payment milestones are met.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Track reporting deadlines and review submissions for compliance and learning value.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure all grantee data in our CRM/Airtable is up-to-date for accurate real-time reporting.
Communications Support
  • Impact Sourcing: Support the Executive Director’s communications strategy by acting as the organization's "field reporter," sourcing impactful quotes and metrics from the grantee portfolio.
  • Newsletter: Curate and produce the quarterly grantee newsletter, featuring deadlines, resources, and peer spotlights.
Skills & Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 3+ years in grantmaking, program management, or community engagement, preferably within the media, arts, or social impact sectors.
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple grant cycles and complex processes simultaneously.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with database management (e.g., Airtable, Salesforce) and grant management platforms.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling reports for boards and funders.
  • Relationship Building: High emotional intelligence and a service-oriented approach to working with diverse community partners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with the journalism or media landscape in Colorado.
  • Facilitation: Experience designing and leading workshops, webinars, or peer learning sessions.
Benefits
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: We offer a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • Retirement: Participation in a 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous paid time off and sick leave accrued in accordance with the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA).
  • Flexible Schedule: Hybrid work environment with a culture that values focused work and work-life balance.
  • Professional Development: Budget and opportunities for skill-building, training, and leadership development.
