Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of relevant experience, including a proven track record of successful grant writing and revenue from foundations.
• Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. The candidate will be able to identify funding opportunities and craft proposals in a clear and compelling manner with little supervision.
• Existing relationships with foundations supporting health, poverty and other topics related to Public Heath Solutions, and a proven record of cultivating new resources.
• Must possess an ability to work well under pressure and the ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a succinct form for RFP applications.
• A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products, online grant submissions systems, Raiser’s Edge and online grant resources.
• Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized and very creative. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in “thinking out of the box” and finding new, innovative opportunities to move an organization forward in achieving its mission.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and work collaboratively across a range of disciplines in public health, social services and community development, and develop information from multiple sources into coherent grant proposals.
• Must possess a solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants.
• Experience in fundraising for health, social services, child development is preferred.
• Knowledge of government RFP submissions systems is a plus

Responsibilities

• Create and direct a fundraising plan that sets annual revenue and relationship goals for funding from private and corporate foundations, and is managed and revised as needed to meet organization’s immediate and long-range needs.
• Steward existing foundation supporters, develop relationships with new donors and arrange meetings with foundation officers and the President other staff as appropriate.
• Write and edit grant proposals, cover letters, correspondence and grant reporting; assemble and submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, presentations and other supporting materials.
• Supervise a Development Assistant in grant research to identify new foundation funding streams; update tracking systems for grant submissions, reports and deadlines; and maintain all necessary back up and supplemental materials for grant submissions.
• Work with Development Assistant to research potential funding sources, including regularly reviewing key private foundation sites and funding resources for relevant RFPs, and sharing with relevant staff to ensure timely decision making.
• Conduct background research about public health issues and relevant topics to build solid knowledge base in guiding support for future programmatic and research work as well as new business development.

Position Summary:

PHS is seeking an experienced Grant Writer to join our Development and Marketing team. The position is responsible for developing and writing grant proposals for private and corporate foundations to secure unrestricted operating revenue and restricted program support. The Grant Writer will direct prospect and grant research; develop and maintain a portfolio of private funders; build and execute strategies to solicit new private and corporate foundation funding; support PHS’ Programs and Research in government grant submissions, as needed; and manage all grant-related systems including Raiser’s Edge tracking, board reports and business development meetings. The PHS Grant Writer will also lead foundation relationships to build new contacts, introduce PHS president and other appropriate staff to foundation leads, engage and develop relationships with prospective funders, and maintain relationships on behalf of our organization.
