Job summary

Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas is seeking a grants professional to promote the agency’s mission by researching, writing, and submitting grant applications to private, corporate, foundational, and governmental funders. You will maintain relationships with funding contacts and ensure compliance with grant requirements.

The role includes post-award services, data gathering for reports, and collaboration with finance and program staff to steward funder relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, English, journalism, or related field.
  • 2–3 years of grant writing or social services experience.
  • Strong multitasking, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team-based environment.
  • Must possess a valid Kansas or Missouri driver’s license, dependable transportation, current vehicle insurance, and a verified safe driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and submit grant applications on behalf of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule for all grant opportunities that are in development, pending, and proposed.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with grantors through individual meetings, site visits, and other avenues.
  • Develop, in conjunction with other grants staff, policies and procedures in accordance with Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison among the grant accountant, program manager, compliance manager, and awarding agency related to program compliance.
  • Periodically check grant budgets and expenditures to ensure targets are met.
  • When requested, provide regularly scheduled status reports on grant implementation in conjunction with grant accountant and program reports.
  • Work with program directors and the compliance manager to gather data for reports and ensure proper maintenance of financial and program records.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate program reports required by grantors according to grant guideline schedules and any additional reporting as deemed beneficial to steward relationships with grantors.
  • Represent Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas at external funder events as assigned and appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings when completing grant applications and reports to private, corporate, foundational, and governmental grantors. Maintain an active relationship with funding source contacts. Provide administrative analysis, post-award services, and oversight to ensure compliance with grant requirements; serve as a resource and point of contact for CCNEK finance staff and managers of grant-funded programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

REQUIREMENTS
  • Demonstrate a passion for the mission of Catholic Charities.

  • Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, English, journalism, or related field.
  • Have 2 to 3 years’ experience in grant writing or social services field.
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to meet grant deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team-based environment.
  • Must possess a valid Kansas or Missouri driver’s license, dependable transportation, current vehicle insurance, and a verified safe driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, standing, bending, and moving
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Must have physical ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Must have the physical ability and appropriate licensure for driving
