Job summary

Habitat for Humanity KC is seeking a Grant and Compliance Manager to oversee day‑to‑day public grant compliance and vendor compliance processes. The role partners with the Director of Advocacy and Community Collaboration and the finance team to ensure training, communication and proper controls across the organization.

The position emphasizes managing grant reports, ensuring internal controls, and maintaining CHDO status and regulatory compliance for all public funding streams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years nonprofit or government grants experience.
  • Ability to interpret government regulations and grant contracts.
  • Experience with budgeting, auditing and government contracts.
  • Federal grant management experience strongly preferred.
  • Attention to detail and cross‑department collaboration.

Responsibilities

Primary Team Leader: Director of Advocacy and Community Collaboration

Job Summary

Grant and Compliance Manager is responsible for maintaining day-to-day compliance items related to public grants and responsible for the overall vendor compliance process for Habitat KC. This role is integral in stewarding and maintaining trust and accountability to our government funding partners as well as ensure our organization can continue to expand our mission of homeownership.

This position will work closely with their supervisor (the Director of Advocacy and Community Collaboration) and finance team in ensuring processes and training are provided, communicated and followed organization wide.

Responsibilities
Compliance
  • Lead vendor compliance and management functions for the affiliate ensuring compliance across vendors including vendor packets and disbarment checks.
  • Performs individual and group training on financial and compliance procedures in coordination with finance.
  • Ensures organization compliance with federal, staff and local grant requirements, laws and regulations, files appropriate reports with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Works closely with finance staff to ensure internal controls are adequately and consistently implemented.
  • Maintain required reporting and recertification of affiliate’s CHDO status.
  • Conduct all on-site monitoring of grants with specific provisions including BABA, prevailing wage/Davis Bacon, set aside contracting, Section 3 provisions or similar provisions with any public entity or public adjacent grant.
  • Maintain grant compliance documentation and close outs for all public grants.
  • Keep up to date on any changing federal requirement changes and work with the Director of Advocacy and Community Collaboration to inform and initiate processes across the organization.
  • Participate in updating affiliate documents and other resources on an annual basis to reflect changes in publicly funded programming.
  • Coordinate and maintain a matrix of compliance activities that live within departments that is regularly reviewed and documented in required places – i.e. the department, HR, or compliance generally.
Financial and Grant Management
  • Ensure public grants are following internal financial and procurement processes or grant specific requirements.
  • Collect and process review of grant reporting detail before final submission by the Director of Advocacy and Community Collaboration.
  • Works with finance staff/auditors to provide grant documentation, schedules, and any necessary support for MARC’s audit and relevant tax filings.
  • Maintain grant documentation and grant lifecycle process in coordination with the Director of Advocacy and Community Collaboration.
  • Ensure vendor systems are coordinated with finance and payment systems.
  • Assist as needed in providing and tracking numbers and narrative for grant applications.
  • Prepare monthly report for Director of Advocacy on outstanding payments from grants and public funding.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in public, non-profit or business management or related field
  • Minimum five years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, preferably in the nonprofit/ government community.
  • Ability to interpret government regulations and grant contracts
  • Experience with budgeting, auditing and government contracts
  • Federal grant management experience strongly preferred
  • Attention to detail and understanding of how compliance is interwoven across departments
  • Ability to build strong relationships through respect and collaboration with internal stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and ability to learn various grant and financial software that may be required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Individual may be subject to intermittent moderate noise levels.
