Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business is required.
  • 2-3 years of grant accounting experience required; familiarity with Private Foundations, NYC and NY funder requirements (DFTA, DYCD, OTDA) is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, IF functions) is required.
  • Must possess critical thinking skills; understand budgets and contracts impact.
  • Familiarity with PASSPort and Grants Gateway is preferred.
  • Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance is preferred.

Responsibilities

Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative professional to join our team as a Grant Accountant. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for overseeing an assigned portfolio of grants and contracts, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with funding requirements, and timely billing.

Please note: This is a hybrid position (three days on-site, two days remote), with Tuesdays and Thursdays as mandatory in-office days at Met Council’s main office in the Financial District.

Principal Responsibilities:

Grant Accounting/Billing: 80% - 90%

  • Prepare financial reports and invoices for all grants to ensure timely and accurate submission to government funders and private foundations.
  • Ensure financial compliance with government and private foundation funding requirements.
  • Prepare journal entries and allocations as needed.
  • Respond to funder-related inquiries from key stakeholders at Met Council and various agencies.
  • Assist in the preparation of funder desk audits.
  • Maintain accurate and updated financial records and files.

Special Projects: 10% - 20%

  • Assist the Director of Budgets and Grants Management in the preparation of special financial reports and projections as needed.
  • Maintain database of administrative contracts. This includes running queries, reports, and inputting data.

Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 per year.
