Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
- Perform duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable) and wear appropriate PPE.
- Serve as a deckhand, reading drafts, opening/closing lids, tying off barges, and performing all barge loading duties to meet draft and quality requirements.
- Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations, maintaining grain quality during storage and transfer.
- Perform rail duties including prep, unloading, loading, placement, and scale/probe operations where applicable.
- Complete documentation accurately and legibly, and perform general housekeeping duties such as sweeping, shoveling, washing, and painting.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs, unload and clean barges, and operate heavy equipment for truck loading at some facilities.
- Execute other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: None required. Preferred 1 year of experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
- Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to complete documentation requirements and follow directions.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks and remain focused on customer service.
Physical Demands & Requirements
Physical demands and requirements may vary depending on the specific location and operational needs. You should be able to:
- Balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel and squat continuously.
- Climb stairs and ladders to significant heights.
- Concentrate on tasks without becoming distracted.
- Distinguish grain samples by grade, color, odor, and damage characteristics.
- Enter information into a computer and use a two‑way radio.
- Lift, push, or pull 50 lbs occasionally or continuously as needed.
- Use appropriate PPE and meet requirements of PFT and fit testing when applicable.
- Pass all required FRA and DOT testing where applicable.
- Work in confined spaces and walk safely on barge surfaces or railcars.
- Work extended hours, weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts as needed.
- Work outside in extreme weather conditions and in high dust environments.

Expected base pay range: $16.50 - $25.00 per hour. Actual pay may vary depending on location, experience, and qualifications.
