Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks a graduation instructional specialist to support system-wide dropout prevention, coordinate data collection, and implement the Graduation Data Verification Report. Under moderate supervision, you will collaborate with schools and staff to develop and execute a comprehensive dropout prevention strategy.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
• Review dropout documents, contact student and/or parent for interview and data collection
• Collect qualitative data on dropouts, analyze and develop recommendations
• Collaborate to provide comprehensive, aligned, sequential dropout prevention programs
• Facilitate annual collaborative process with schools to ensure accurate identification of students meeting dropout criteria
• Develop and deliver training to school staff on dropout data collection
• Support and coach school staff on the Graduation Success Initiative (GSI), GDVR, etc.
• Oversee compliance and implementation of GDVR, course credit, pathways, and progress to graduation
• Stay current on educational research and best practices to inform professional development
• Create a collaborative environment with positive communication
• Perform related work as assigned or required

The graduation instructional specialist, under moderate supervision, performs instructional programs support work with limited decision-making discretion supporting system-wide dropout prevention and collaborating to develop a comprehensive dropout prevention strategy. The position serves as the NC DPI dropout coordinator and assists schools with dropout data collection annually, including the Graduation Data Verification Report (GDVR). Employee performs school-based and district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures as an expert instructional specialist under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of School Performance.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
• Review dropout documents, contact student and/or parent for interview and data collection
• Collect qualitative data on dropouts, analyze and develop recommendations
• Collaborate to provide comprehensive, aligned, sequential dropout prevention programs that are developmentally appropriate for students
• Facilitate annual collaborative process with schools to ensure accurate identification of students meeting dropout criteria by the state designated deadline
• Develop and deliver training to school staff on dropout data collection
• Support and coach school staff on the Graduation Success Initiative (GSI), GDVR, etc.
• Oversee compliance and implementation of GDVR, course credit, pathways, and progress to graduation at assigned schools
• Compile and analyze data related to dropout markers and prepare recommendations for improvement for select K-8 schools; coach appropriate staff as needed
• Stay current on educational research, best practices, and emerging trends to inform instructional decision-making and professional development offerings
• Facilitate professional development and attend other related meetings as needed/required
• Participate in professional development workshops and training
• Create a collaborative environment with positive communication
• Perform related work as assigned or required
