Job summary

Arup in San Francisco is seeking graduates to join our water resources team. You will develop sustainable water engineering solutions, conduct field investigations, and prepare hydrologic and hydraulic models for flood risk and water systems.

This role emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration and client-facing presentations. You will work with tools like ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM, and PCSWMM, and contribute to reports, calculations and design deliverables within a supportive Early

The opportunity

• Develop sustainable water engineering solutions, including green infrastructure, flood risk mitigations, water treatment, water reuse, master planning, resilience planning, and sustainability assessments on a variety of site development and civil infrastructure projects
• Conduct data collection and field investigations
• Use ArcGIS or other georeferenced mapping platforms to prepare utility plans or hydrology/hydraulic maps
• Prepare 1-D and 2-D hydrologic and hydraulic models for flood risk assessments, stormwater management, and sanitary and potable water systems. Software may include programs such as InfoWorks ICM, PCSWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Storm and Sanitary Analysis, EPANET, InfoWater, and others
• Prepare calculations for water demand, pipe sizing, rainwater harvesting sizing and cost savings and other relevant hydraulic calculations for water systems
• Perform flood risk assessments of sites, infrastructure and communities
• Review and apply applicable codes, specifications and standards for the design and implementation of the above elements
• Develop awareness of interdependence among disciplines in delivering sustainable and resilient outcomes
• Provide work products for projects at various phases of planning, design and construction
• Successfully navigate the regulatory environment to gain approvals at various stages of project delivery
• Develop a big-picture awareness that permeates various skill areas in Arup
• Prepare reports, calculations, plans, exhibits and specifications
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations to technical and non-technical audiences

Is this role right for you?

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civiland/or Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering
• Master’s Degree in Civiland/or Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineeringpreferred
• Competence with engineering software and technical writing
• Core understanding of water resources engineering and civil engineering fundamentals
• Evidence of past engineering internship or extracurricular activity in the field
• The ability to prioritize and effectively manage assigned work tasks, andmaintainexceptional organizational skills under dynamic working conditions
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential to team-based working
• Public speaking and presentation skillsappropriate forpresentations to colleagues and clients of varying levels of technical knowledge
• Candidate must be eligible to work in the US without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future to be considered for this role
• Proficiencyin civil/water engineering, design and analysispreferred
• Proficiencyin 3D CAD (AutoCADCivil 3D,OpenRoads, etc.), GIS,HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS,and/or other industry-relevant softwarepreferred
• Proficiencywith hydraulic & hydrologic analysis toolspreferred
• Coursework or familiarity with sustainable design principals, and/or resilient designpreferred

• No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
• Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts

San Francisco Hiring Range – Hiring Range- The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performedin San Francisco is $79,500 to $86,500 per year. This range iscommensuratewith experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco will differ.
