Job summary

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Warner Robins, GA, is seeking a Graduate Student Intern for the Fall 2026 semester in the Electronic Systems Lifecycle (ESL) Division. ESL conducts research spanning the full lifecycle of electronic systems and supports Robins AFB.

The intern will assist with software development, testing, and tools for EW and avionics projects under experienced researchers, with part-time hours (10–20 per week) and a focus on learning and growth.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
  • Part-Time Intern - must be registered for 6+ credit hours.
  • Intermediate experience with at least one programming language.

Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) is currently seeking a Graduate Student Intern in the Electronic Systems Lifecycle (ESL) Division, located in Warner Robins, Georgia, for the Fall 2026 semester.


ESL conducts research and engineering support spanning the full lifecycle of a broad range of electronic systems. Operating primarily in support of Robins Air Force Base (AFB) in Warner Robins, Georgia, ESL specializes in advancing Electronic Warfare (EW) and related technologies. The division's expertise covers a wide spectrum of activities, including system prototyping, technology insertion, systems and facility modernization, Test and Evaluation (T&E), cybersecurity engineering, and comprehensive system analysis. ESL plays a vital role in the development and enhancement of both emerging and fielded systems and platforms. This broad range of research will provide a solid foundation for the student as a future software engineer. The student will work under the guidance of GTRI researchers performing research and development in one of the following areas:



  • Software development, testing, and validation

  • Object oriented programming, web development, and software/hardware interfacing

  • Creating a complex electromagnetic environment used to test Aircraft Protection systems

  • Controlling and configuring hardware-in-the-loop test station


The student researcher will perform one or more of the following activities:



  • Design, code, and debug Windows software, embedded systems software, or web technologies for electronic warfare or avionics systems test applications

  • Conduct testing of Windows application software, embedded systems software, or web technologies

  • Develop software test tools


Required Minimum Qualifications

Intern



  • Pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering

  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA

  • Part-Time Intern- Must be registered for 6+ credit hours

  • Intermediate experience with at least one programming language


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in one or more programming languages outside of classes (work or independent project experience)

  • Experience in the use of configuration management tools

  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts

  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas

  • Automated testing experience

  • Ability to perform research independently and on teams

  • Task / team leadership experience

  • Secret Clearance


Hours per Week

10-20 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.


Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
