Job summary

ENGIE North America Inc. is seeking a BESS Engineer I for the Graduate Program in Broomfield, CO. The role focuses on supporting the development and preliminary engineering of grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems, including standalone or co-located projects with renewable assets.

The 24‑month program includes local immersion, an international assignment, and a consolidation phase to deepen expertise with BESS layouts and project delivery. A permanent contract is offered from start.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline is required.
  • Experience or internships in supporting grid‑scale BESS projects is a plus.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D, particularly for conceptual site layout development.
  • Experience working with GIS software, spatial datasets, and coordinate systems.
  • Working knowledge of BESS power and energy sizing principles and development-stage design considerations.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively.

Engineering mission:

As a BESS Engineer I, you will play a key role in supporting the development and preliminary engineering of grid‑scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including standalone and co‑located projects with renewable assets. You will contribute to early‑stage system definition, conceptual site layout, and technical support across the project lifecycle, helping ENGIE advance competitive and financeable energy storage projects across North America.

Program Structure (24 months)
  • Mission 1: 9‑12‑month A first local immersion tailored to your background and business needs
  • Mission 2: 6‑month Second assignment abroad in one of ENGIE's R&F geographies (e.g., South Africa, Chile, UK, India, Australia...). Exposure to cross‑cultural teams and new operational realities
  • Mission 3: 9‑month A consolidation local mission designed to deepen expertise and HSE/Digital etc. to prepare for the landing role. Focus on business contribution, autonomy, and ability to manage small projects or workstreams
Key Learning & Development Features
  • Technical skills development: Preliminary Design and Optimization, Engineering, Project Delivery, O&M, HSE, Design/Development, BESS layouts, Early stage layout optimization, AutoCad and Civil 3D. Buildable Area & Site Constraints, System Sizing, Codes/Standards, Deliverables, Grid & Interconnection Awareness, Procurement/Team Collaboration and stay updated on changing trends in the BESS industry

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline is required

Compensation

Salary Range: $90,000 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
