Nurse Residency Program

Job summary

Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT, part of Trinity Health, offers a 12-month Nurse Residency Program for newly licensed RNs or those with less than 12 months of clinical experience. The program follows the Vizient/AACN framework and supports the development of clinical judgment, leadership, and evidence-based nursing practice.

Participants attend monthly seminars and receive specialty-based orientation with preceptors and educators.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an ADN or higher.
• Less than 12 months of RN clinical experience at time of hire.
• Connecticut RN license not required to apply, but an active CT license must be obtained prior to start date.
• Resume required; highlight clinical rotations, senior practicum, capstone, internship, nurse extern experiences, and relevant healthcare employment.

Responsibilities

• Transition from graduate nurse to professional RN through a structured 12-month Nurse Residency Program.
• Provide safe, evidence-based, people-centered patient care.
• Participate in monthly residency seminars and complete required program activities.
• Learn alongside experienced preceptors, educators, and nurse leaders.
• Complete an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) project and professional development activities.
