Graduate Resident Director (GRD)

The Graduate Resident Director will assist full-time Resident Directors with daily operations of the residential community. The role focuses on the development of Living/Learning Communities and student engagement efforts, including oversight of the Residence Hall Programming Board, data collection, assessments, and building a living environment that fosters student development.
This part‑time position is a 10‑month, live‑in role within the Office of Housing & Residence Life, including evening and weekend on‑call support. It is contracted for one academic year and is renewable based on performance. The position includes furnished housing and a meal plan. Filling of the position is contingent upon funding.
Community Development & Engagement
- Get to know residents on campus and be available to them in your office, virtually, and at programs.
- Respond to students in a timely manner, especially those in distress.
- Demonstrate respect for residents with different lifestyles and opinions.
- Become familiar with campus resources to appropriately guide students.
- Survey residents and gather feedback to improve the housing program.
- Plan and execute events to engage student development and enhance the Residential Curriculum and Living/Learning Communities.
Student Staff
- Assist with weekly, bi‑weekly, and monthly staff meetings, including agenda preparation and running meetings.
- Provide feedback and guidance to CAs/RAs and assist with their evaluations.
- Assist with recruitment of CAs/RAs and the selection process.
- Oversee CAs/RAs programming each semester to ensure goals are met and programs run properly.
- Ensure programs are spaced correctly and do not conflict with campus events.
Policy & Student Discipline
- Maintain knowledge of the Residence Life Handbook, housing contract, and other important documents.
- Respond to policy violations and document as needed.
- Serve as a hearing officer for lower/medium‑level student conduct cases as required.
On‑Call Duty
- Participate in the emergency on‑call rotation for RA support.
- Remain on campus (or within five minutes) when on‑call.
- Document incidents, submit incident reports, and act as a mandated reporter as required by law.
- Utilize master keys, student rooms, etc., in accordance with procedures.
- Contact Public Safety, 911, and Admin On‑Call as needed.
Housing Operations
- Assist Resident Directors with check‑ins, check‑outs, student moves, and roommate mediations.
- Notify Maintenance and Housekeeping of issues and ensure follow‑up.
- Oversee Operations of the Front Desk in the Residence Hall Commons.
Professional Development
- Participate in Student Staff and Professional Staff trainings in August and January.
- Attend bi‑weekly professional staff meetings and one‑on‑one meetings.
- Take advantage of additional professional development opportunities as offered.
