Job summary

Johnson & Johnson's Ethicon division seeks a Graduate Engineer for its Accelerated Rotational Program (GEAR). This onsite program develops early‑career talent through hands‑on experience in manufacturing operations and process development across multiple NA/US sites.

Participants gain exposure to process design, packaging automation, and cross‑franchise engineering assignments while receiving leadership and technical development training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an Engineering related field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Minimum 3 months of work experience (co-op, internship, or post‑grad).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assignments within a technical curriculum based on business needs.
  • Design, develop, and implement processes at selected site(s).
  • Support manufacturing operations and drive improvements.
  • Lead site improvement initiatives and collaborate with cross‑functional partners.
  • Manage lifecycle activities for base products and ensure transition between assignments.

Role Availability

Purpose

The Graduate Engineer Accelerated Rotational (GEAR) program looks to develop early in‑career talent to gain hands‑on experience and build an encouraging network! The role will support our Global Technical Operations (GTO) team within the Ethicon franchises. The opportunity to spend a guaranteed minimum of 8 months (maximum 16 months) working in an Ethicon Manufacturing Site. Combine on‑job experience with technical, leadership & personal development training. Rotational assignments across multiple NA/US sites that deliver real and impactful business results.

Exposure to multiple Ethicon products and manufacturing processes (Endomechanical-Energy, Wound Closure & Healing, Biosurgery). Global networking and virtual collaboration with fellow associates around the world.

Building technical skills in many areas, including process development, manufacturing operations, quality and regulatory compliance, project management, and product/process improvement methodologies (six sigma, lean, design excellence).

Responsibilities
  • Conducting assignments within an assigned technical curriculum based on business needs, project criticality, and/or prior experience.
  • Process Design, Development, and/or implementation at selected site(s).
  • Manufacturing Operations Support.
  • Manufacturing Operations Improvements.
  • Site improvement initiatives (e.g. Construction and installation support for new manufacturing technology).
  • Lifecycle management support for existing base business products with cross‑functional partners.
  • Demonstrating leadership imperatives.
  • Taking ownership of project outcomes.
  • Learning and applying skills.
  • Supporting transition processes between assignments.
  • Providing feedback and recommendations on program effectiveness.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
  • Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually require future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an Engineering related field obtained between July 2026 and June 2027.
  • A minimum of 3 months of work experience, inclusive of co‑op, internship, and post‑graduate employment.
  • Interest in cross‑franchise engineering assignments within Ethicon.
  • Geographic flexibility over the course of the GEAR Program, up to and including final placement upon graduation from the program.
  • Eligible to begin full‑time employment with J&J by the assigned start date in June 2027.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Passion to pursue a career on the technical track.
  • Proven leadership and technical skills.
  • Willingness and ability to learn in a dynamic environment.
  • Highly effective communication skills.
  • Good basis in statistical analysis of data – e.g. experience with Minitab tool (or equivalent).
  • Full proficiency in MS Office applications (including MS project).
Salary & Benefits

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $87,800.00.

  • Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long‑term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

  • Long‑term incentive program.
  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year.
  • Sick time – up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year.
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time – up to 40 hours per calendar year.

Pay Transparency

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance‑based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. This position is eligible for a sign‑on and/or early incentive bonus.
