Job summary

San José State University is seeking an Evaluation Specialist in the College of Graduate Studies to coordinate and execute the evaluation and advisement of graduate students for admissions and degree requirements, including international students and special programs.

The role supports DSOs, handles visa documentation, collaborates with Admissions and Records, interprets complex policies, and provides presentations and communications for campus stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, with upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
• Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience; a master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience; a doctorate may substitute for three years.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate graduate international and domestic applicants for admission to the university.
• Evaluate and certify complex credentials and transcripts; ensure authenticity of documents.
• Prepare list/check sheet of completed and to be completed classes required for degree; review and process program of study for graduation.
• Research international and domestic academic systems to determine transferability and equivalencies; convert credits to university system.
• Review and verify documents to determine admission eligibility under CSU and campus policies.
• Evaluate and assess eligibility for advancement to candidacy and graduation.
• Prepare and transmit individualized evaluation of transfer credit; advise on remaining graduation requirements.
• Interpret and explain policies to applicants, staff, and faculty advisors.
• Provide high level guidance on policies to other SJSU offices and external partners.
• Collaborate on graduation-related projects with deadlines; support specialized administrative tasks for GAPE.
