Wiregrass Construction is hiring an entry-level Grading Laborer to support grading projects. You will perform assigned tasks, help foreman and crew, and prioritize safety while contributing to quality work.

The role offers hands-on learning across trades, with daily responsibilities that include tool maintenance, organization, and assisting in traffic control and site preparation under varying Alabama weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, organized worksite and report hazards.
• Perform assigned tasks and routine maintenance on tools.
• Assist foreman/leadman and support operators as needed.
• Flag motorists, manage water transport, and set up erosion controls.
• Load/unload materials and manage daily tool retrieval and storage.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our Grading Team in this entry-level position.

As a Grading Laborer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operations of our grading projects. This person will have multiple opportunities to learn several skilled trades and contribute in a meaningful way to their team. Your primary responsibilities will include performing assigned tasks, completing general duties assigned by the Foreman or Leadman, prioritizing safety, and contributing to the overall quality of our work. We are looking for someone who is proactive, reliable, and committed to the success of our crew.

What you will do:

• Maintain a clean and organized work environment on the jobsite.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of safe and unsafe locations on the jobsite.
• Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of all hand tools. Report any unsafe equipment to the foreman for further action.
• Conduct pre-start and routine maintenance on motorized hand tools.
• Identify and address any issues related to quality.
• Assist in assembling the laydown and launch area for each project.
• Support the operators as needed.
• Remove excess material as needed and ensure loose items are removed from work areas.
• Retrieve daily tools from the truck and ensure they are available on the jobsite at the start of the shift.
• Return daily tools to the appropriate storage location at the end of the shift.

General tasks may include, but are not limited to:

• Working as a Flagger to direct motorists away from the work zone.
• Transporting water to the equipment and operators
• Setting up and maintaining erosion control measures.
• Loading and unloading materials.
• Shoveling dirt, gravel, and sand.
• Setting up and maintaining traffic control aids.

• Previous experience in the grading industry or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
• Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and responsibilities.
