Job summary

Job description

Hi-Way Paving is a general contractor in the construction field that specializes in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.

Hi-Way Paving is seeking an experienced, hands‑on Grade Foreman to join our team. In this role, you will lead a crew of operators and laborers while overseeing equipment, meeting production goals, and managing schedule requirements on construction projects.

Location: Currently located in Aiken, SC (with future travel required to various job sites including Charlotte, NC, Nashville, TN, and other sites TBD).

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and manage the dirt crew to meet production goals, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
  • Designate worker responsibilities and create schedules, ensuring that equipment and materials are delivered on time.
  • Inspect the condition of grades to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and project plans to ensure work is done according to the designs.
  • Manage daily timekeeping logs and equipment logs, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Establish and communicate performance expectations to the crew, providing regular feedback and guidance.
  • Identify training and development needs for the crew and conduct on‑the‑job training to improve skills and performance.
  • Monitor and enforce safety practices, ensuring compliance with all governing authorities and site‑specific safety plans.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training and enforce performance expectations.
  • Promote and enforce safety regulations according to site‑specific plans and governing authorities.
What We Look For
  • 3+ years of Foreman experience on heavy/highway and airfield projects or related heavy/highway construction job‑site management experience required.
  • Experience leading or contributing to a concrete paving crew at airfields/airports, preferred.
  • Enhanced training or certifications in safety and/or OSHA regulations, preferred.
  • Proven experience managing crews and working with heavy equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project specifications.
  • Must be willing to travel overnight to job sites up to 100% of the time.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
    • Willingness to travel 100% of the time.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
    • If applicable, indicate union affiliation in your application.
    • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job‑site safety and labor requirements.
