Job summary

Sullivan Middle School 5-8 in Lowell, MA is seeking a long-term substitute to teach Grade 8 Science. The role reports to the Principal of Record and runs from November 2026 through June 2027.

The candidate should hold a valid Massachusetts teaching certificate; SEI endorsement or ESL licensure is preferred. Start date is immediate, with responsibilities including curriculum alignment, planning, assessment, behavior management, and collaboration with staff.

Qualifications

• Salary per years of experience and education level pursuant to pay schedule within Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Certification valid for service as a teacher in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• SEI endorsement/ESL licensure preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience with appropriate age group.

Responsibilities

• Remain up to date regarding curriculum content.
• Plan instruction effectively.
• Plan assessment of student learning effectively.
• Monitor students’ understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials or assessments when appropriate.
• Create an environment that is positive for student learning and involvement.
• Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect and safety.
• Make learning goals clear to students.
• Use appropriate instruction techniques.
• Use appropriate questioning techniques.
• Evaluate, try innovative approaches and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence in ability to learn.
• Communicate learning goals and high standards and expectations to students.
• Promote confidence and perseverance in the student that stimulate increased personal student responsibility for achieving the goals of the curriculum.
• Strive to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
• Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.
• Be constructive and cooperative in interactions with parents and receptive to their contributions.
