About Our School

Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) was founded in 2010 and serves over 1200 scholars from Kindergarten to 12th grade across three sites in Far Rockaway, Queens. Our mission is to prepare students for academic excellence, mastery of NY State Learning Standards, and career aspirations while fostering intellectual, artistic, social, emotional, and ethical development. Understanding the Role

The Middle School Math Teacher is a critical member of our Instructional Team, delivering exceptional instruction, assessing student growth, and proactively supporting the school and team. This educator is a passionate advocate for students and families, committed to continuous learning, and provides academic and cultural support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assume a high level of personal responsibility for the progress of all students
  • Create academically rigorous and culturally relevant lesson plans, materials, and assessments, and differentiate as needed
  • Execute lesson plans guided by clear objectives, focusing on conceptual understanding and routine assessment of mastery
  • Teach engaging, rigorous, and relevant lessons daily
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including scholars, families, and staff
  • Implement school‑wide systems, structures, and procedures while reflecting on implicit biases
  • Reflect on data sources to improve practice
  • Create a positive, structured, results‑oriented, and fun school environment for students of varied abilities and experiences
  • Collaborate with colleagues to refine school‑wide and classroom‑based systems, routines, and procedures
  • Utilize classroom time efficiently through sound management and strong relationships with students
  • Develop, implement, and/or manage individualized behavioral intervention plans to support academic and non‑academic goals
  • Participate in opportunities to strengthen pedagogical skills and contribute to colleagues’ learning
  • Fulfill required administrative duties, maintaining open and proactive communication with colleagues
Skills, Qualifications, and/or Competencies Required
  • Dedicated to working in historically underserved and under‑resourced communities

  • Displays exceptional patience and focus to overcome challenges and achieve results
  • Strong classroom management skills: sets high expectations and keeps scholars engaged
  • Clear and precise classroom presence, effective guidance of inquiry‑based discussions
  • Detail‑oriented and highly organized
  • Bachelor’s degree required in education or mathematics; Master’s preferred
  • New York State Teaching Certification required
  • Strong understanding of middle school mathematics and real‑world application
  • Experience with middle‑school‑aged students in academic or youth development settings
  • Proven track record of classroom achievement

Salary is based on qualifications and experience.

Grades 6‑8: 15‑20 Central Avenue, Far Rockaway, NY 11691

Selection Process
  1. Phase I – Virtual interview with the HR recruiter
  2. Phase II – Demo, panel interview, and interview with the Senior Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning 6‑12
  3. Final – Reference check, offer, and contract
Work Year

This full‑time position begins in mid‑August and lasts through the end of June.
