Job summary

Rea is a growing Top 100 business advisory & accounting firm offering tax, accounting, and business consulting services. The Supervisor – Government will oversee preparation of financial statements for government entities, ensuring regulatory compliance and accuracy.

This role leads a preparer team, applying accounting principles and internal controls. The candidate will apply GAAP, GAAS, GAGAS, UG knowledge, mentor staff, and collaborate with clients and management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent required.
  • MBA/master’s in accounting is a plus.
  • Licensed CPA or international equivalent preferred.
  • Four+ years of public accounting experience; supervisory experience expected.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and review audit processes for government engagements.
  • Monitor engagement progress vs. budget with senior support.
  • Manage client relationships and expectations.
  • Provide timely advice to clients and ensure compliance with standards.

The Supervisor – Government will manage the preparation of financial statements and related documentation for government entities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and accuracy. This role involves overseeing preparation processes, applying accounting principles, and supervising a team of preparers.

Job Duties
Control Environment
  • Apply a thorough understanding of internal control frameworks to ensure the effectiveness of financial preparation processes
  • Assess and validate internal controls over financial reporting to identify areas for improvement
  • Communicate suggestions for improving client internal controls and accounting procedures to management, helping to enhance the overall control environment
  • Supervise the preparation team, ensuring accurate execution of tasks and adherence to internal controls. Provide guidance and delegate responsibilities as needed
  • Offer training and mentorship to team members to improve their understanding of internal controls and financial preparation procedures
Governmental GAAP
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of governing principles; applying these principles to client transactions; and documenting and communicating an understanding and application of these principles
  • Identify and consult with clients on the impact of new accounting pronouncements
  • Monitor and communicate important professional, industry pronouncements
  • Present and discuss alternative generally accepted accounting principles and arguments for/against such alternatives
  • Identify complex accounting issues and forms and documents resolution, seek counsel of Rea technical experts as needed
GAAS/GAGAS/UG
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of professional standards; application of the principles contained in professional standards; and the ability to document and communicate an understanding and application of professional standards on an engagement
  • Apply a thorough knowledge of professional standards/practices, including GAAS, GAGAS, and UG in performing and supervising work
  • Provide guidance to others and affirm conclusions made by others
  • Communicate matters required to be reported to the Audit Committee/Board and those charged with governance
  • Effectively apply the use of technology
Methodology
  • Implement and adhere to preparation standards that guide the delivery of high-quality financial statements and documentation. Ensure compliance with firm methodologies and industry best practices
  • Conduct detailed reviews of preparation processes to ensure alignment with firm standards and regulatory requirements. Address and resolve any issues or discrepancies
  • Plan and oversee the preparation process, balancing quality, efficiency, and timeliness. Recommend improvements to enhance process effectiveness and resolve critical issues
  • Manage client acceptance and retention procedures where applicable, ensuring a smooth and professional relationship
Research
  • Apply methodology used to seek or maintain information from authoritative sources and to draw conclusions regarding a target issue based on that information
  • Define methodology to conduct research projects and completes in a timely manner
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of all appropriate research tools and draw conclusions based upon appropriate research
  • Prepare memo supporting research/conclusions and consult with others if appropriate
  • Present issues to principal in charge of engagement or concurring reviewer effectively and accurately
  • May be required to organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialists
Job Performance Responsibilities
  • Plan and review the audit process and the procedures to be performed to include:
  • Monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with assistance of Senior
  • Managing client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project
  • Providing advice to clients in a timely manner
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Responsible for supervision of Accounting Specialist team, Associates and Senior Associates on all projects
  • Review work prepared by Associates and Senior Associates and provide review comments
  • Act as a Career Advisor to Associates and Senior Associates
  • Schedule and manage workload of Associates and Senior Associates
  • Provide verbal and written performance feedback to Associates and Senior Associates
  • Teach/coach Associates and Senior Associates to provide on-the-job learning
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in the use of various assurance applications and research tools as is appropriate for this level
  • Microsoft Office Products, including Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong Governmental GAAP, GAAS, GAGAS and UG knowledge
  • Possess proven solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess excellent people development and delegation skills, including training/instruction and engagement scheduling and budgeting
  • Possess executive presence - need to be able to be primary contact for the client, prepare and present presentations to clients and potential clients
  • Possess client development/relationship-building skills
  • Possess solid decision-making skills
  • Able to resolve complex accounting issues
  • Able to be responsible for business development and marketing
  • Able to be responsible for engagement profitability including billings and collections
Education:
  • Bachelor’s in accounting or equivalent required
  • MBA/master’s degree in accounting optional
Experience:
  • Four (4) or more years prior work experience in public accounting required
  • Prior significant supervisory experience
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Licensed CPA or international equivalentpreferred

Job Location:Individual works inside with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
