Job summary

Inclusive Abundance seeks a full-time Government Affairs Associate in Washington, DC to support engagement with policymakers and partner organizations. Reporting to the Head of Government & External Affairs, you will research, write, coordinate, and manage relationships with congressional offices and federal agencies.

You will monitor federal legislation and prepare briefing materials, memos, and talking points while maintaining organized tracking systems for outreach and events.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in Congress, federal agencies, policy advocacy, or a writing-intensive policy role.
  • Excellent organizational and database skills with clean, current records.
  • Strong commitment to Inclusive Abundance's mission and values.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong political and strategic judgment; ability to work independently.
  • Discretion with sensitive information.
  • Initiative and self-starter mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze federal legislation, hearings, and policy proposals; provide updates and analysis to the team.
  • Support relationship-building with policymakers, agencies, and partner organizations.
  • Draft policy memos, talking points, and other policy products.
  • Research policymakers, committees, districts, and policy issues to inform advocacy strategy.
  • Prepare briefing materials for meetings; attend meetings and capture notes and follow-up items.
  • Maintain systems for tracking outreach, meetings, and follow-up activities.
  • Coordinate briefings, events, and other external engagements, including scheduling and logistics.

Job description

We are seeking a full-time Government Affairs Associate to join Inclusive Abundance's growing team in Washington, DC. This role will support Inclusive Abundance's engagement with policymakers and organizations across the abundance advocacy ecosystem.

Reporting to the Head of Government & External Affairs, the Associate will provide research, writing, coordination, and relationship-management support for the organization's work with congressional offices, federal agencies, and partner organizations in support of Inclusive Abundance's mission and vision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and analyze federal legislation, hearings, markups, and abundance-oriented policy proposals, and provide timely updates and analysis to the team.

  • Support the government affairs team in building and maintaining relationships, including keeping track of meetings and supporting scheduling.

  • Reinforce the Inclusive Abundance brand of reliability and friendliness by providing excellent customer service when interacting with partners.

  • Draft policy memos, talking points, one-pagers, hearing/speech materials, correspondence, and other products supporting external advocacy and legislative partners.

  • Research policymakers, congressional districts, committees, organizations, and policy issues to inform advocacy strategy and external engagement.

  • Prepare briefing materials for meetings; attend meetings, develop comprehensive notes, and track decisions and follow-up items.

  • Maintain systems for tracking congressional outreach, stakeholder engagement, legislative developments, meetings, and follow-up activities.

  • Coordinate briefings, events, receptions, and other external engagements, including scheduling, materials preparation, database management, and related logistical support.

Successful Candidates Will Have:
  • 2-5 years of experience working in Congress, federal agencies, policy advocacy, or a related writing-intensive policy role.

  • Excellent organizational and database skills, including an aptitude and excitement for maintaining clean and current records.

  • Demonstrated commitment to and passion for Inclusive Abundance's mission and values.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy topics for a range of audiences.

  • Strong political and strategic judgment, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

  • Handles sensitive information with discretion.

  • Initiative and a demonstrated ability to turn ideas into action. Self-starter mentality.

  • Background in abundance policy is a significant plus.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and communicate under tight deadlines.

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience (ranging from $80,000 to $110,000 per year).
