City of St. Pete Beach is seeking an Accountant to manage day-to-day transactional accounting, close processes, and audit readiness under established guidelines.

You will collaborate with the Senior Financial Analyst, Budget Management Analyst, and Finance Director to maintain financial accuracy. The role requires a Bachelor's degree with 3 years in governmental accounting or a Master's with 1 year; CPA preferred; valid Florida driver's license; and flexibility for emergencies or disaster

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field and 3 years of professional experience in governmental accounting; OR Master’s degree and 1 year of relevant experience; OR equivalent combination.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
• CPA designation preferred.
• Ability to work on varied schedules, including during emergencies or disaster situations.

Responsibilities

• Execute monthly and annual financial close processes as part of the team.
• Perform routine pre-audits of balance sheet accounts, adjustments, and financial reports.
• Reconcile asset and liability accounts, including receivables and special assessments.
• Analyze transactions and journal entries for accuracy and compliance; prepare corrections as needed.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and support external audit processes in conjunction with the Senior Financial Analyst.
• Assist in finalizing year-end trial balances and preparing supporting documentation for audit review.
• Process revenue and receipts, validate supporting documentation, and record transactions in the general ledger.
• Reconcile daily cash postings with monthly bank statements and investment accounts.
• Assist in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
• Collaborate with departmental staff and assist in project work, periodic reports, and deliverables, especially related to year-end closing and audit preparation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned within the Finance Department.
