Job summary

Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, MT is seeking a Merchandiser for its Golf Shop. You will purchase products, design visual merchandising, and provide product knowledge to Members and guests, aiming to meet Club standards and sales goals.

You will manage budgets, vendor negotiations, and Open-to-Buy planning, while supervising staff and coordinating deliveries from Bozeman to maximize sales opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising, Marketing or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in retailing including buying, display/merchandising, receiving, pricing, returns, inventory control preferably in golf.
  • Ability to analyze technical data in suppliers’ proposals; strong negotiation and mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of supply-chain management and financial analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing, vendor selection, and pricing to meet revenue and profit goals.
  • Design in-store displays and Open-to-Buy plans.
  • Train and supervise golf shop staff; coordinate deliveries and schedules.
  • Maintain inventory; ensure merchandise is neat and presented to standards.
  • Deliver outstanding guest service and uphold Club standards.

Yellowstone Club’s Golf Operations department is currently seeking candidates for a Merchandiser. This is a full-time year-round position located in Big Sky, Montana.

The purpose of the Golf Shop Merchandiser is to purchase products, design creative visual merchandising, provide product knowledge and sales support for the team and with Yellowstone Club Members and guests consistent with the Club’s standards and expectations. Additionally, the Golf Shop Merchandiser must strive to achieve the store and Club goals and objectives in service, branding, sales, marketing, productivity and inventory management.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly and indirectly supervises employees; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Club’s policies, procedures and applicable laws; responsibilities include but are not limited to: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Major Responsibilities
  • Ensure that each member and guest receives outstanding guest service in a guest friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every member and guest, maintaining outstanding service standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of guest service.
  • Empowered to guarantee total guest satisfaction, display hospitality and professionalism to our guests at all times, take pride in representing Yellowstone Club professionally with our members and guests and assure that all transactions with guests are handled in a legal and ethical manner.
  • Understand and apply all property safety and security procedures to maintain a secure and safe environment for employees, members, and guests at all times. In the event of an accident or emergency, seek medical attention if necessary and contact the General Manager or Human Resources immediately.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all Club employees to foster and promote a positive working environment.
  • Communicate with staff and members via email, text, and radio (with earpiece).

  • Meet financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions to ensure meeting goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of purchasing, including but not limited to, establishing preferred vendors, selecting and purchasing quantities of goods and merchandise, development of private label product, pricing of merchandise, and negotiation contracts with vendors. Merchandise selected for Yellowstone Club must surpass our Member and guest’s expectations, while achieving and maintaining revenue and profit goals.
  • Ensure merchandise is neat, clean and pressed for presentation in the Golf Shop to the Club’s standards.
  • Formulate pricing policies that ensure all Club products are priced correctly.
  • Prepare attractive and creative in-store displays and visual merchandising.
  • Attend trade shows to identify new products and services, source new vendors, and stay current on current and future trends that will appeal to Members and guests.
  • Prepare Open-to-Buy plan annually to Director of Golf Operations.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established Club policies, procedures, and standards of service to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
  • Meet departmental productivity, organization, punctuality/attendance and consistency standards.

  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Prepare merchandise Training Manuals as needed.
  • Work with managers to source employee uniforms as needed.
  • Coordinate that deliveries at the Warehouse in Bozeman are quickly transferred to the Golf Shop for maximum sales opportunities.
  • Manage retail staff including recruitment, hiring, scheduling, coach and counsel, train and disciplinary action where necessary. Evaluate on-the-job performance.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure items are in stock. Keep up with fluctuating supply and demand.
  • Analyze Golf Shop operating and financial statements for profitability ratios.
  • Utilize information technology to record sales figures, for data analysis and forward planning.
  • Ensure standards for quality, customer service and Club culture expectations are met.
  • Ensure hours of operation are in compliance with Club need and business demands.
  • Prepare staff work schedules to accommodate the expected business demand.
  • Conduct regular product knowledge training with retail staff; help sales team achieve sales targets.
  • Handle Member and guest questions, complaints, and issues.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Golf Shop.
  • Review, analyze and monitor invoices with buyers to ensure Yellowstone Club was charged correctly, products arrived as expected and the product standard meets expectation. Handle adjustments and returns as needed.
  • Design and create annual retail plans for each season to meet sales expectations.

Experience/Education Required
