PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Guide participating student athletes in the achievement of a high level of skill, discipline, sportsmanship and citizenship. To oversee and promote the athletic program in accordance with NFHS, IHSA and RPS #205 Board Policies and athletic handbook.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Ensure that all actions are in concert with Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
  2. Participate in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  3. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  4. Plan and communicate with assistant coaching staff regarding practice schedule and competition strategies which ensure the health, physical well‑being and success of student athletes.
  5. Coordinate fundraisers, athletic activity account deposits and distribution of funds in accordance with Board Policy.
  6. Manage the distribution and collection of uniforms and sport specific inventory.
  7. Ensure that all student athletes are in compliance with District requirements including athletic physicals, student code of conduct, athletic fees paid, academic eligibility and all other standards included in the district athletic handbook.
  8. Model/instill values of sportsmanship, citizenship and teamwork.
  9. Assist with the selection of assistant and volunteer coaches.
  10. Properly supervise student athletes during all related activities and events.
  11. Maintain individual and team statistics and records.
  12. Plan and implement a seasonal awards recognition program through the building athletic office.
  13. Engage in sport specific professional development education.
  14. Implement programmatic instruction of sequential fundamentals to feeder programs and work closely with the strength and conditioning coach.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Valid Illinois Teachers Certificate and/or Meets IHSA Criteria (Qualification of Coaches – 2.070)
  2. Previous coaching experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Moderate in‑district travel and intermittent in‑state and out‑of‑state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.

The Physical Requirements of the Position
  • Sedentary Work – Sitting most of the time; occasional walking or standing.

  • Medium Work – Exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally; up to 20 pounds frequently.
  • Heavy Work – Exerting up to 100 pounds occasionally; up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Very Heavy Work – Exerting above 100 pounds occasionally; above 50 pounds frequently.
The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision
  • Machine Operations – Inspection, close assembly, clerical, administration; minimum standard for those whose work deals largely with preparing and analyzing data.
  • Mechanics – Skilled tradespeople; minimum standard for those who operate machines such as power tools, lathes and drills.
  • Mobile Equipment – Minimum standard for those who operate cars, trucks, forklifts, cranes and high equipment.
  • Other – Minimum standard based on accuracy and neatness of work for janitors, sweepers, etc.
