Job Title: Golf Equipment Technician

Department: Golf

Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent

White Oak conserves and sustains some of the earth's rarest wild animals through innovative training, research, education, and conservation breeding programs that contribute to the survival of wildlife in nature. The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Mary’s River in northeast Florida, surrounded by 22,000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property. Founded in 1982, White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care, develop holistic animal management techniques, and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large, naturalistic habitats.

Job Summary

The Golf Course Equipment Technician plays a vital role in ensuring all equipment operates safely and efficiently to support championship-level playing conditions. This position performs or assists the Equipment Manager in the repair and maintenance of a wide range of golf course maintenance equipment, including 2-cycle, gasoline, diesel, and electric‑powered machinery. Responsibilities also include contributing to preventative maintenance programs, maintaining a clean and safe Turf Care Center, and following all established safety protocols.

Essential Duties
  • Maintains a high standard, quality‑of‑cut on all mowing equipment daily.
  • Diagnoses and performs minor to major repairs on all golf course equipment in a timely and effective manner.
  • Conducts routine and scheduled maintenance across the equipment fleet.
  • Keeps accurate and detailed service records, including repairs, service intervals, labor hours, and parts used.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized Turf Care Center, ensuring standards of cleanliness are upheld to the level of Navy Ship/Hospital‑grade conditions.
  • Disposes oils, lubricants, and other hazardous materials in accordance with operating and environmental standards.
  • Maintains all essential turf care equipment.
  • Performs loader and forklift operation.
  • Performs recycling operations.

Education and Work Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required. Technical or vocational training in small engine repair, diesel mechanics, or related field, preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in golf course equipment maintenance or similar mechanical/equipment repair environment, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of gasoline, diesel, 2-cycle, and electric‑powered engines and systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing turf equipment, including mowers, utility vehicles, and handheld tools.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems, electrical components, and reel/rotary mower cutting units.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices related to equipment operation and repair.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast‑paced, outdoor environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and decimals.
Physical Requirements, Hazards, and Special Working Conditions
  • Must have valid Florida or Georgia driver's license.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays or in emergency situations.
  • Work is primarily performed in a maintenance shop environment with frequent outdoor tasks. Exposure to loud noise, fumes, dust, grease, and various chemicals is common. Periodic outdoor work may involve variable weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, or humidity.
  • Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and climbing. Must be able to lift and carry parts, tools, and equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. regularly and occasionally heavier with assistance. Manual dexterity and visual acuity are essential for precision repair work and equipment diagnostics.
  • Regular operation of grinders, welders, hoists, diagnostic tools, and handheld power tools. Must safely operate golf course equipment for testing and quality control purposes.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including eye protection, gloves, and hearing protection. Must comply with all facility safety policies and OSHA standards, including lockout/tagout and chemical handling procedures.
