Job description

Golf Course Superintendent – Skaneateles CC

Founded in 1915, Skaneateles Country Club (SCC) is nestled on the shores of picturesque Skaneateles Lake, in the heart of Central New York's renowned Finger Lakes region. With its crystal‑clear waters, stunning views and small‑town charm, the village of Skaneateles offers not only a vibrant community and highly ranked school system, but also convenient access to major metropolitan areas including New York City, Boston, Montreal, and Toronto. SCC is a thriving, vibrant club with a diverse membership. Its lakeside setting, beautiful facilities, friendly members and employees create a world‑class member experience. Recent capital investments include a state‑of‑the‑art Rain Bird irrigation system and a new fleet of John Deere equipment. SCC is in the early stages of developing a golf course master plan with famed Golf Course Architect Lester George.

The Club has 650 members in all classes of which 460 are full golf members. While the Club is open 9 months a year, most of the revenue is generated during the summer months. The Club features a variety of dining options for members, ranging from casual to traditional club dining, as well as waterfront dining and event space. The 18‑hole golf course hosts more than 16,500 rounds annually, from early spring through late fall. In addition, the Club offers four tennis courts along with a wide array of boating, sailing and waterfront amenities.

The GCS prepares an annual budget and works to achieve financial goals through accurate forecasting, effective expense control, and efficient labor management.

The Superintendent works closely with the General Manager on capital improvement expansion projects and interacts with the golf staff to maximize the number of rounds of golf played, scheduling maintenance practices around member play and club outings to maximize efficiency. The Superintendent is responsible for hiring, training and developing all staff, ensuring compliance with OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions. The GCS will serve on the Club’s Golf and Greens & Grounds committees as an ex‑officio member and reports directly to the General Manager.
