Job summary

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) in Berkeley invites applications for a Research Technician in the Barton Lab. You will support mouse husbandry in a gnotobiotic setting, perform dissections, tissue processing, and molecular biology tasks, and help maintain rigorous lab records.

You will join a collaborative team, participate in meetings, and contribute to publications as applicable. A BS in a relevant science field and strong motivation are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science field or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to learn complex tasks with minimal instruction and work independently.
  • Motivated, organized, and able to coordinate with others.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds and perform mouse work and basic assays.

Responsibilities

  • Gnotobiotic work: maintain animals in sterile, positive-pressure environments.
  • Assist with dissections, tissue processing, DNA extraction and PCR analyses.
  • Read literature and record results; participate in weekly lab meetings.
