Job summary

Vertex is seeking a Comparative Medicine Manager, Vivarium Operations in San Diego. You will lead the vivarium operations, coordinate animal procurement, support IACUC processes, and ensure training for in vivo users.

This role partners with research teams to maintain compliance, welfare, and operational excellence across sites. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in a life sciences field, experience in vivarium or in vivo studies, and knowledge of IACUC protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in animal science, biology, veterinary technology, life sciences, or related field required.
• Master's degree in a relevant scientific or operational discipline preferred.
• AALAS certification (LATg), ILAM and/or CPIA preferred.
• Experience with vivarium operations, IACUC processes, SOP development, and training material creation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate vivarium operations at the San Diego site, ensuring compliant, uninterrupted research support.
• Oversee animal procurement, IACUC support, and technical assistance for in vivo studies.
• Develop and maintain training content, SOPs, and procedures; promote best practices in animal care and compliance.
• Partner with internal stakeholders and global teams to harmonize processes and implement improvements.
