Caterpillar Inc. in San Diego, CA, is offering a 2027 Intern – Global Supply Chain – Logistics Specialist.

This 12-week in-office internship supports the Global Logistics department with data collection, validation, and analysis across parcel, LTL, truckload, air, ocean, and intermodal modes. You will assist with dashboards, reports, rate comparisons, and freight audits while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive cost and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a 4-year accredited college/university or advanced degree.
• Preferred majors include Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Minimum GPA 2.8/4.0.
• Previous supply chain internship or work experience is preferred.
• Strong initiative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Leadership involvement in student associations.
• Competence in data analytics.
• Strong scheduling and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of inventory and planning with basic understanding of manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

• Collect, organize, and validate transportation data from internal systems and carrier reports.
• Analyze freight costs, shipment activity, carrier performance, and service trends across transportation modes.
• Assist with dashboards, recurring reports, rate comparisons, and freight audit activities.
• Work with logistics and cross-functional teams to gather information and support issue resolution.
• Support process improvement projects and present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Assist with preparing datasets, validating carrier information, comparing freight costs, and developing reporting tools for better transportation execution.
