Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of Supplier Business Reviews.
  • Participate in contractual negotiations and award of business.
  • Coordinate the supplier approval process for production readiness.
  • Build relationships with business stakeholders across teams.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

A mentorship experience that gives students an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a multi-faceted Global Sourcing team. This co-op will gain practical experience to develop decision making skills with increasing independent control over purchasing commodities, supplier relationships, and procurement projects. Functions may include, but not limited to, product development procurement projects, purchasing materials, cost reduction initiatives, gathering and preparing data, and giving presentations. Depending on experience level, they will be given opportunities to lead their own projects.

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES
Commodity Sourcing
  • Gain knowledge of supply chain including industry trends, economic factors, supply challenges and key suppliers within commodities
  • Support the development and implementation of commodity profiles and strategies
  • Collaborate with Quality organization on supplier quality programs and quality monitoring including problem solving at supplier sites
  • Manage component pricing from suppliers within assigned commodities
  • Support cost reduction/cost containment projects through implementation
  • Assist in preparation and execution of Supplier Business Reviews
  • Support sourcing activity and supply chain engineering change orders
  • Participate in report-outs and formal presentations on work conducted
Product Engineering Sourcing
  • Participate in quoting, contractual negotiations and award of business for sourcing
  • Contribute to projects that drive cost reduction, improvement, avoidance and control through PE projects to facilitate the company’s competitive advantage
  • Coordinate successful completion of supplier approval process and production readiness assuring suppliers adhere to process, scope and timing of projects
  • Supports engagement and communication with Commodity Sourcing Leads, Operation Buyers and SQE throughout the project for seamless transfer of PE project sourcing information
Indirect Sourcing
  • Assist in creation of RFPs
  • Participate on cross-functional project teams
  • Build relationships with business stakeholders to achieve financial goals in each indirect spend category
Operation Buyer
  • Purchase material for assigned commodity, taking into account demand, price, delivery, quality, and inventory objectives
  • Manage Kanban, MRP, and other replenishment systems
  • Predict and communicate operational impacts
  • Problem solve supply shortages and receiving issues
  • Facilitate the examination and approval of problematic invoices
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Enrolled in a four year accredited degree program, working toward a BS in Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing, Engineering or other applicable degree.

COMPETENCY/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office application (Excel, Word).
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • ERP experience is a plus, preferably with Oracle
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with internal customers, external suppliers and fellow teammates
  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion in business relationships and exercise sound business judgment
  • Openness to domestic travel, mostly day trips
