Job Description Summary

The Global Research Director, Patient Care Solutions (PCS) is responsible for defining and executing the global research and evidence strategy across the PCS portfolio, including patient monitoring, anesthesia delivery, maternal/fetal and infant care, cardiology solutions, and digital technologies. This leadership role reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer for PCS. The Director serves as the strategic leader for evidence generation, aligning research investments with business priorities, product development, regulatory requirements, market adoption, health economics, and long-term growth objectives. This role partners closely with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Product Management, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Marketing, and external research collaborators to deliver clinical, economic, and scientific evidence that supports innovation, product development priorities, and business impact.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Global Research and Evidence Strategy Define and execute a multi-year global research and evidence-generation strategy aligned with PCS clinical, product, regulatory, and commercial priorities. Identify evidence gaps and determine clinical, technical, economic, and real-world data requirements needed to support product development, validation, regulatory submissions, market access, and marketing claims. Advise PCS leadership on research priorities, investment decisions, portfolio governance, and long-range evidence planning. Incorporate emerging clinical trends, customer insights, competitive intelligence, and evolving standards of care into research strategy and product planning. Establish metrics and governance processes to ensure research investments deliver measurable clinical and business value.
  • Research Portfolio Leadership Lead a global portfolio of clinical, real-world evidence, digital health, outcomes research, and health economic studies including company sponsored and investigator-initiated research. Lead and mentor a high-performing team of approximately 10 global professionals fostering scientific excellence, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and talent development. Manage the design and oversight of research programs using appropriate methodologies, including prospective, retrospective, pragmatic, adaptive, database, and multi-site study designs, to address strategic business, clinical, regulatory, and economic evidence needs. Evaluate study concepts, protocols, endpoints, and research methodologies to ensure scientific rigor and strategic relevance. Drive dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed publications, scientific congresses, and evidence-based communications.
  • Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) Partner with the PCS HEOR leader, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Product Management, Marketing, Finance, and regional teams to identify economic evidence needs. Develop the PCS global HEOR research program strategy, aligned with portfolio priorities, clinical evidence plans, customer needs, and market-access requirements. Generate evidence on total cost of care, workflow efficiency, resource utilization, operational performance, patient and clinician outcomes, and economic value.
  • External Research Partnerships Establish and maintain strategic relationships with academic medical centers, healthcare systems, investigators, research networks, professional societies, and key opinion leaders. Identify and develop collaborative research programs aligned with PCS strategic priorities. Lead senior level research engagements, scientific steering committees, and partnership governance activities. Represent PCS and GE HealthCare within the scientific community and research ecosystem.
  • Financial and Portfolio Management Develop and manage the global PCS research budget and multi-year investment plan. Establish portfolio prioritization processes balancing strategic value, scientific merit, business impact, cost, and risk. Identify opportunities for external funding, grants, and collaborative research investments. Communicate portfolio performance, risks, and investment recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Cross-Functional and Organizational Leadership Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, ethical standards, quality requirements, and company policies governing research activities. Lead the research organization as a key partner to Product Management, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Clinical Development, Marketing, and Medical Affairs. Ensure research plans are integrated into product roadmaps, regulatory strategies, clinical evidence plans, and commercialization efforts. Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing global research organization. Foster a culture of scientific excellence, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or an advanced degree in medicine, nursing, public health, epidemiology, health economics, engineering, biomedical science, or a related clinical or scientific field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with clinical research methodologies, real-world evidence, health economics, outcomes research, company and/or investigator-studies.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in clinical research, medical affairs, evidence generation, health economics, research collaborations, or related functions within healthcare, medical technology, life sciences, or academia.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience in the MedTech, pharma, or biotech industry leading global research portfolios, budgets, and multidisciplinary team members.
