Job summary

Mars Incorporated in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Principal Scientist Microbiology Global to define and deploy the microbiology strategy across global business units. You will lead the global practice group, drive governance, and coach microbiology experts, enabling safe innovation in snacks and food products.

This role offers exposure to R&D, Supply, Corporate Affairs and Commercial teams worldwide, with a focus on risk assessment, standards, and external collaboration to stay at the forefront of

Qualifications

• PhD in Microbiology or Food Science concentration in Microbiology.
• Minimum of 3 years practical microbiology experience within food or beverage industry.
• Experience in low moisture food preferred.
• Experience defining and deploying microbiology strategy.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with a global perspective.

Responsibilities

• Develop the segment microbiology strategy and assist with deployment in each global business units and regions.
• Lead and manage the microbiology global practice group.
• Develop global microbiology capability by coaching and mentoring microbiology experts.
• Co-develop and implement corporate microbiology standards.
• Provide global governance in segment microbiology strategy.
• Provide microbiology expertise and risk assessments supporting PRIMP for Serious and Critical incidents.
• Enable innovation pipeline by developing robust microbiological risk assessments and deployment strategies for new process technologies.
• Ensure internal connectivity via MSAC Food Safety Pod and with external microbiology experts and opinion formers.
• Identify and address emerging external microbiology opportunities & threats.
