Job summary

The IMF offers the Fund Internship Program for PhD economics students to contribute to research questions that affect its 191 member countries. Interns work with IMF economists, gain hands-on experience, and build a professional network in an international environment.

Over 10 to 12 weeks at IMF Headquarters in Washington, D.C., interns undertake an individual research or project assignment, with opportunities to present findings to staff and possibly publish internally.

Qualifications

• Be within one to two years of completing a PhD in macroeconomics or related field.
• Be enrolled as a student at the time of the internship and return to studies afterward.
• Be under the age of 32 when the internship begins.
• Demonstrate excellent written and spoken English.
• Possess strong analytical, quantitative, and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to an individual research or project assignment.
• Apply economic research skills to real-world policy questions.
• Present findings to IMF staff and colleagues; some work may be published internally.
