Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an Associate Director- Labor & Employment to advise on a broad array of labor and employment matters, including employee relations, hiring, wage/hour, leaves, and terminations. You will shape US and global policies in partnership with HR and senior leadership.

You will lead investigations, respond to EEOC/NLRB/DOL matters, and manage both single plaintiff and class actions. The role offers hybrid/remote work with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

  • JD degree and bar admission in good standing.
  • Minimum 5 years of labor and employment experience in a law firm or in-house counsel role.
  • Experience litigating single plaintiff and class actions, including first chairing mediations.
  • Independent client counseling experience on L&E issues including leaves, accommodations, discrimination, terminations.
  • Experience with traditional labor negotiations, unions, and arbitrations would be a plus.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic labor and employment legal advice on a broad range of matters.
  • Develop and implement US and global employment policies and procedures for compliance.
  • Support investigations and independently manage sensitive investigations.
  • First-chair responsibility for responding to charges, audits, and investigations before EEOC, NLRB, DOL and state/local agencies.
  • Independently manage single plaintiff and class action employment litigation, driving strategy and outcomes.
  • Provide strategic advice on reorganizations to balance business goals and risk.
  • Draft, review, interpret and negotiate employment-related agreements.
  • Prepare communications to HR and business leaders on labor and employment topics.
  • Provide legal counsel on global mergers and acquisitions; lead employment-related work streams.
