Job summary

Merck is seeking an Associate Director of HVAC Engineering to lead design efforts for global capital projects, ensuring compliant, efficient HVAC systems across pharmaceutical manufacturing, research, and utilities. You will guide front-end planning, Basis of Design development, and vendor collaboration while mentoring junior engineers.

Based in a flexible hybrid role with locations including West Point, PA, Rahway, NJ, Durham, NC, and Elkton, VA, you will drive technical leadership, regulatory

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of HVAC and mechanical system design experience.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, regulatory requirements, and design fundamentals.
• Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industries preferred.
• Knowledge of building and industry codes and project documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support HVAC design efforts to deliver compliant, innovative solutions.
• Provide technical guidance during scoping and front-end planning for sterile, biologic, and lab facilities worldwide.
• Support sustainability and energy-saving initiatives on projects.
• Ensure deliverables meet company standards and are technically sound.
• Collaborate with IPT members, vendors, and QA for design deliverables and commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design standards and governance.
• Interface with global quality and safety teams on divisional guidance.
