Job summary

Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) seeks a Managing Editor with deep expertise in global health and international affairs to lead Think Global Health. You will oversee operations, coordinate contributors, edit content, and drive engagement for CFR’s online magazine.

Based in CFR’s New York City or Washington, DC office, the role anchors onsite presence four days per week with a flexible schedule as needed. A strong publishing background and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher required.
• Minimum eight years of experience in global health, science, or international affairs journalism.
• Experience with digital publishing, social media, and multimedia editing.
• Proven history of successful people management, including performance development.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Think Global Health website and daily staff operations.
• Manage a small team, including performance management and development.
• Oversee solicitation of contributors and assignment planning.
• Oversee editing and preparation of site content and weekly newsletter.
• Write on emerging global health issues and conduct policy interviews.
• Manage freelancer budgets, contracts, advertising, and analytics.
• Maintain editing and fact-check procedures and deadlines.
• Oversee content strategy and CMS posting for CFR content.
• Coordinate photography and data visualizations for articles.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
