Job summary

Donaldson's summer internship program in Bloomington, MN offers undergraduates a chance to combine engineering, data analytics, economics, and sustainability to develop tools that guide strategic energy decisions. You will work with real-world utility, operational, and energy data, identifying opportunities to reduce costs, improve profitability, and lower carbon footprint.

Internships run for 10–12 weeks on-site at our Bloomington facility.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate in an accredited degree program pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, data science, physics or mathematics
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, including data visualization, chart creation, and basic formulas
  • College-level algebra knowledge acquired through coursework or placement testing

Responsibilities

  • Develop analytical tools and dashboards to analyze energy costs and electrification opportunities across the global manufacturing footprint.
  • Create a global 'Spark Gap' model that compares electricity and natural gas economics to support long-term energy strategy decisions.
  • Support integration of utility tariffs into Donaldson's energy monitoring platform to improve visibility into real-time energy costs.
  • Analyze opportunities for demand management and battery energy storage while quantifying impacts on operating costs, profitability, and carbon emissions.

Join Donaldson's Manufacturing Excellence Sustainability team and help shape the future of energy across a global manufacturing network of more than 60 facilities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to combine engineering, data analytics, economics, and sustainability to develop tools that guide strategic energy decisions. Working with real-world utility, operational, and energy data, you will help identify opportunities to reduce operating costs, improve profitability, lower Donaldson's carbon footprint, and support long-term electrification and sustainability strategies across our global operations.

Our summer internships provide ambitious undergraduates the chance to gain real world experience in their field of study. We provide challenging, professional experience with a global corporation, where you learn from and work alongside Donaldson employees. Internships take place at our global headquarters in Bloomington, MN, over a 10-12 week period. Qualified candidates must be able to work an on-site schedule at our Bloomington, MN facility.

Role Responsibilities
  • Develop analytical tools and dashboards that help Donaldson understand energy costs and electrification opportunities across its global manufacturing footprint of more than 60 facilities. Collect and validate utility rate information, including electricity, natural gas, demand charges, and time-of-use pricing structures.
  • Create a global "Spark Gap" model that compares electricity and natural gas economics to support long-term energy strategy decisions for electrification.
  • Support integration of utility tariffs into Donaldson's energy monitoring platform to improve visibility into real-time energy costs.
  • Analyze opportunities for demand management and battery energy storage while helping quantify potential impacts on operating costs, profitability, and carbon emissions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate in an accredited degree program pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, data science, physics or mathematics
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, including data visualization, chart creation, and basic formulas
  • College-level algebra knowledge acquired through coursework or placement testing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with carbon accounting and/or chemistry
  • Strong interest in sustainability
  • Completion of college-level statistics coursework or equivalent testing credit
  • Microsoft Excel experience, including PivotTables
  • Minimum 3.0 out of a 4.0 cumulative GPA
Relocation:

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

Hourly Pay Rate: $20.00 - 28.00, depending on projected undergraduate graduation date, educational degree in progress and major of study upon time of hire.

This position is overtime eligible as per state and federal regulations.
