Job summary

AXIS Capital is seeking a Chief Internal Audit Officer to lead the global internal audit strategy, reporting to the Board Audit Committee and General Counsel. You will shape risk-based plans, drive continuous improvement, and act as a trusted advisor to executives, demanding deep P&C insurance knowledge and seasoned leadership.

The successful candidate will manage a global team, coordinate with regulators, and ensure independent assurance while upholding governance across geographies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance, accounting, business, or related discipline
• Globally recognized certification in internal audit or accounting (CIA, CPA)
• Minimum 10+ years leading internal audit, risk, compliance, or related functions
• Ability to operate as independent trusted advisor to Board Audit Committee
• Experience designing enterprise-wide risk-based audit plans across geographies

Responsibilities

• Set and execute the multi-year strategy for the global Internal Audit function
• Lead the development and delivery of a risk-based audit plan
• Identify and assess emerging enterprise risks and translate into audit priorities
• Assess culture and governance as leading indicators of risk
• Provide independent assurance and reporting to the Board Audit Committee
• Partner with risk management and compliance to strengthen three lines of defense
• Oversee audit coverage across functions including technology, cyber, third-party risk
• Manage relationships with regulators and external auditors
• Drive data analytics and continuous auditing
• Build and develop a high-performing global audit team
• Develop and manage Internal Audit budget and metrics
