  • Apply engineering knowledge and experience to R&D and manufacturing glass products and processes
  • Evaluate technical feasibility of existing processes to meet the manufacturing requirements of new automotive programs
  • Support the design and implementation of new and existing processes to improve process capability and product quality/performance
  • Support implementation of R&D projects into global manufacturing facilities
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, and other internal departments, to identify process improvement opportunities
  • Conduct trials and analyze research data to develop new or improved products and processes
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records (laboratory notebook and documents)
  • Prepare presentations and reports, and communicate test results of research activities to management
  • Provide technical input to the design and installation of process tooling to conduct testing and development activities
  • Maintain and plan preventative maintenance on the R&D and development center process equipment
  • Troubleshoot issues with R&D and development center equipment and processes
  • Conduct or participate in risk assessments on new and modified equipment
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally to R&D centers, manufacturing plants, supplier, and customer locations
  • Adherence to the NSG/Pilkington safety standards
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Scope:

  • Participates in, and supports, global R&D development projects
  • Partners with manufacturing, as required, to provide technical support for automotive glass production.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, glass related field, or equivalent experience
  • Engineering knowledge of glass
  • 2-5 years of experience working with glass manufacturing and/or development engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of problem-solving techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to travel 20% of the time

Qualifications Desired:

  • Experience with glass coatings
  • Understanding of Six Sigma quality improvement
  • Understanding of DFMEA and PFMEA
  • Mechanical aptitude
